I have been working in the Web design field as a freelancer for about 15 years now. Webfocus Design is my Web design, development and strategy studio based in the beautiful Richelieu Valley region in Montérégie on the South Shore of Montreal. My services include a complete range of Web/graphic design and Web development services and I specialize in the creation of client managed Web sites powered by the WordPress content management system (CMS).
I am also an enthusiastic believer in Web 2.0 and social media used for business development and marketing and I can advise you on your social media strategy if you are thinking or planning on entering that world.
Furthermore, I can handle your whole branding strategy from the design of your logo and letterhead (business cards, brochures, newsletters and more) to your Web site and its optimization for search engines (SEO).
My expertise
My expertise is based on 15 years of experience building Web sites for organisations of all sizes in many fields. I also worked for many years in a customer service role in a small sized industrial screen printing company so I know the reality and challenges facing small to mid sized companies very well. My expertise is based on practical business experience that enables me to help companies and other organizations like non-profits to carve a niche and succeed on the Web.
I also strive to continuously learn more and stay current with my fast moving field. I always keep an eye on new technologies and techniques related to accessibility, usability and user experience (UX) as well as marketing to make your Web site the best that it can be for your visitors and potential customers.
On a more technical side, it is part of my business philosophy to follow the standards of my industry and write clean semantic HTML code that help your site compete in search engines. Semantic code greatly helps the organic or natural search results and ranking of your site in Google and other search engines. That is one of the reasons why I settled on the WordPress open source platform when I decided to start using a CMS (Content Management System) to power most of my Web site projects. WordPress and and the theme framework and extensions I use are all coded with the same attention to detail and quality I put in the sites I coded by hand myself.
A few more words on WordPress
More and more Web site owners want to update their content themselves without relying on the paying services of a professional Web designer. In that respect, WordPress is an ideal choice as it is the easiest content management system to use for non technical people. Site owners also want to keep control over their own sites and get the most out of their online investment. In that regard, WordPress is again an ideal choice as the platform itself is open source and is continuously being updated and improved by a team of dedicated developers. The community around it is also growing constantly. This means that, not only won’t you have to start from scratch if you want to redesign your site down the line but, you can easily pass on the development or maintenance of the site to someone else in the future. You will still need to call on a professional for the initial strategy, design and development work but using WordPress can greatly reduce your ongoing maintenance costs.
